Egypt in Africa is a country that packs many wonders and sights that are beholding and great. Also, the Cairo Museum and Mosque of Muhammad Ali Pasha with Sinai Peninsula are like pearls in the garland of Egypt’s tourist attractions.

  • Giza in southwest of Cairo is listed among the oldest monuments on globe which includes ancient Egyptian royal mortuary and sacred structures like Great Pyramids of Giza, Great Sphinx and many others.
  • Luxor located 500 km from Cairo, is touted to be the largest open air museum on earth and includes ruins of temple complexes at Karnak and Luxor.
  • Saqqara, 30 km from Cairo, has in it many pyramids, including the oldest in the world and a number of mastabas as well. It served as the burial ground and necropolis for Memphis, which was the capital of Egypt in ancient times.
  • Abu Simbel is a famous archeological site having two rock temples of massive size known to have been built in the 13th century BC. In 1960, the entire complex was relocated to save it from getting submerged and now stands above the Aswan High Dam reservoir, over an artificial hill.
  • Alexandria, popular as a summer resort, has many beautiful beaches, historical sites and museums; most famous is the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, which aimed at reviving the old library of this place.
  • Sinai Peninsula due to its natural beauty has earned ample fame as a tourist destination and is bestowed with biblical history and rich coral reefs. The place is a home to Saint Catherine’s Monastery, the oldest Christian Monastery, which is still working and the Mount Sinai and also many beach resorts.
  • Ain Sukhna houses many famous beach resorts and is situated 110 km from Cairo.

 

Desserts form a crucial part of Egyptian cuisine. A large number of desserts in Egypt are made as puddings and pastries and almost every dessert is soaked in sugar or honey syrup, for that amazing taste.

  • Any foreign traveler travelling to Egypt must possess a valid passport and an Entry Visa which are mandatory; also citizens of some countries must have a pre-arrival Visa in order to travel to Egypt.
  • If having an international student card, it can help you in getting good concession on the entry fees to various monuments and temples as well.
  • Photography is allowed at most historical sites, but you should always check before clicking in case any prohibition is levied. Also taking photos of military stuff, forbidden bridges and other public places is prohibited.
  • Currency used in Egypt is the Egyptian Pound which is equal to 100 piaster. Notes that are used here include piaster, 1 pound and notes of 1, 5, 10, 20, 50, 100 and 200 Egyptian Pounds.
  • Being a Muslim country, it’s always advised to dress conservatively especially when visiting churches and monuments. In summers lose, light cotton clothing is recommended and don’t forget to carry your sunglasses, hat and comfortable shoes along with you.

 

Arab Republic of Egypt situated in the Northeast of Sinai Peninsula of African Continent shares its land borders with Sudan in south, and Libya in the West. To the north it shares its shoreline with Mediterranean Sea and to the east with Gulf of Aqaba. Most part of the country being desert there are many densely populated areas here. Abdel Nasser who was the leader from 1956-1970 did a satisfactory work and worked as a charismatic leader of Egypt. His successor Sadat, who took over after Nasser’s death in 1970 brought a series of fundamental changes in economy. Succeeding him was President Hosni Mubarak who remained at power till 2012.
