Kafr Shukr Travel Guide
Kafr Shukr is an administrative center in the Qalyubiya governorate of Egypt and is located about 60 km southeast of Cairo. It includes many villages and towns and spans over 400,269 km in area. Kafr Shukr does not have much historical importance and is known mostly as a trade center. Agriculture, trade, and industry are the most important economic activities in Kafr Shukr. It's also famous for poultry breeding and fruit farms. There are other small industries and furniture making in this town as well. The town is strategically placed between Damietta and El Qalyubiya, further enhancing its importance as a trade center. Kafr Shukr has all the essentials in terms of standard of living and is a nice place to visit.
Khalid Mohieddine, an important leader of Egypt, was born in Kafr Shukr in 1922. He was an important member of the Egyptian army and, under his leadership, the National Progressive Union Party became an important opposition force during the rule of Hosni Mubarak.
How to Get To Kafr Shukr
Tourists can land at the Cairo International Airport and take a cab from there to Kafr Shukr. There are many larger cities nearby and one can easily travel to them by arranging transportation as well. Al Fayyum, Haifa, Tel Aviv, and Gaza are the nearest major places to visit. Besides Cairo International Airport, Port Said Airport and Cairo West Airport are also easily accessible from Kafr Shukr. There are a couple of hotels in the city and one can choose to book the stay here or choose any of the more luxurious options at one of the larger nearby cities.

Anshas
Anshas is in Sharkiya governorate and lies less than 17 miles from Kafr Shukr. The city had the very first experimental nuclear reactor in Egypt that was operated at the Egyptian Atomic Energy Experimental Farm. The first Arab League summit in 1949 was also held in this city.
Banha
Banha, the capital of Qalyubiya governorate, is less than 7 miles from Kafr Shukr. The local name for this place is Banha el-Asal which translates to "sweet like honey." In ancient times Prophet Muhammed sent a message to the ruler of Egypt Muqawqis inviting him to convert to Islam. The ruler replied back by sending gifts- a jar of honey and two slave girls named Sirin and Maria. The Prophet tasted the honey and asked where it came from. The girls replied “from benha” and the prophet then said, “God bless Benha and its sons”. This gave the town of Banha the name- Banha el-Asal. Banha University established in 1976 is an important center for studies in this region.
Mit Ghamr
Mit Ghamr accounts for almost two-thirds of aluminum production in Egypt. The city lies in the Al Daqahilyah governorate and is known for its aluminum utensil production. It is also very close to Kafr Shukr.
